From 600 p.m. to 730 p.m., we enjoy free beer, wine and heavy appetizers with the members of the Crew, Seattle Rep’s young professional group. The parties are usually 200 plus strong. We then see the play, The Cook. After the show, the party continues with the cast of the show.
ABOUT THE SHOW:
In 1958, on the eve of the Cuban revolution, Gladys, a young cook, makes a solemn promise to her mistress. Before the wealthy family flees in the night, she vows to protect and care for the beautiful home that she worked in all her adult life. As the reality of Castro’s revolution settles in, and despite the personal consequences, Gladys fights to keep her promise for over four decades. In Machado’s rich, engaging, and deeply personal play, Gladys emerges as a woman with great spirit who lives by her heart against a backdrop of a troubled Cuba. The New Yorker called The Cook “first rate…a shining theatrical experience,” and the Miami Herald described it as “Powerful….the writing is political and unflinching.” Seattle Rep’s production is a West Coast premiere.
WHAT IS THE CREW??
The Crew is the Rep’s 200+ member young professional social group. Members attend 5 shows throughout the season and host parties before and after the show. The cost of the show always includes hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine. Crew Nights allow you to meet and party with other Seattle young professionals and to attend Seattle’s top theater. After the show, we often party with the cast, directors and playwrights!

We need a final headcount for food, beer and wine by Sunday, October 28, so call the box office (206-443-2222) and order your tickets. Make sure to tell them, “I am ordering tickets for the Crew Party and show.” Otherwise you will not get the special pricing. If you are 21 – 25, the price is $30. For the rest of you 20-, 30- and the youthful 40-somethings the price is $40 and includes your heavy appetizers (no need to get dinner that night), beer, wine and the show! Our food that night is being catered by a restaurant that specializes in Cuban cuisine!
Like all Seattle Anti-Freeze events, guys must bring a person of the opposite gender. It can be a friend, lover or even a relative. We just don’t want our events to turn into a Seattle Bar: 8 guys stalking one woman. Attire is casual.
Gayle is pocketing your money! For example, the entrance fee for Hula Hula is $0 yet she is charging you $10.
The Seattle Anti-Freeze is a freeze within itself.
is that really true?
Your $10 goes towards the following financial costs:
1. Seattle Anti-Freeze has reserved the entire bar of Hula Hula for this event. While it is true that Hula Hula is usually $0 cover, reserving the entire bar exclusively for us is quite a different story.
2. We have hired a DJ for the evening.
3. We will need to buy 220 or so sharpies or fabric pens.
There are also the following time costs:
1. Visiting various venues until we find one that works
2. Email evite support to get exceptions for their guest list limit of 750 people.
3. Writing code to manage the guest list and drop people who haven’t been responding.
4. Responding to lots of emails.
5. Managing the list of people who have bought tickets.
6. Adding people to the evite as they request.
7. Hiring a DJ.
Finally, consider the risks involved:
1. Someone writes on the bar.
2. We don’t sell enough tickets to cover our costs.
3. (And this is a biggie!) I am sued because someone drives home drunk and kills someone (or gets in a fight, or falls down the stairs, or etc, etc). I have actually taken out additional insurance policies to help protect me against this huge personal risk.
So given the huge risks, financial burden, and time investment, why do I still do it? I enjoy it. It’s a lot of hard work, but there’s a great deal of satisfaction in it as well.
anonymous (the one who posted at 5:41): Your assumptions about my motivations here are wildly inaccurate. Your statements as to the costs of running an event are factually incorrect. You continue to make personal attacks on irrelevant topics just as my looks. I don’t know why you have such a personal vendetta against me and Seattle Anti-Freeze, but if you’re not interested in attending, then you simply don’t have to attend. As it stands, your comments are cruel, unnecessary and factually incorrect.
I would prefer that I don’t have to block anonymous comments, but your actions are making it increasingly likely that I do.
